CSU-Long Beach was the university closest to me while I was growing up in Southern California. Having the opportunity to work with a university that serves such a racially diverse student body further fulfilled my desire to work in a university.

During my time as an intern with their library I was given the following tasks:

• Evaluate academic librarianship as a career

• Observe and teach course integrated library instruction sessions

• Develop and lead instructional workshops on general research topics or other topics of interest

• Increase reference skills for academic libraries

This internship was my first real opportunity to work within an academic library setting as a librarian. Despite having done some student work in my undergraduate career, this internship made me feel like a real librarian. One of my most rewarding experiences was whenever I was scheduled to be on the reference desk. I was lucky enough to work one-on-one with the students, showing them how to use their library resources and using effective search strategies to further their research.
