Due to my experience and interest in historical preservation and archives, I was a key member of several projects for the Santa Fe Springs City Library's preservation goals. These projects allowed me the opportunity to further my knowledge and skills in archiving and librarianship by writing grants, creating budgets, authoring a strategic plan, and creating preliminary plans for a museum renovation.

Makerspace and Memory Lab

One of the ideas I championed was the creation of a Makerspace and Memory Lab. Tied into my passions for historical research and crafting, this project was created to provide access to technologies that may be too expensive for at home purchase. This includes items such as sewing supplies, Cricut materials, scanners, digital converters, and 3D printers. With funds provided by the library budget, this project is in the purchasing phase with future plans to apply for grant funding to expand the collection of items for use in the library.

Library Historical Preservation Committee

As a member of the Library Historical Preservation Committee, I was given the opportunity to collaborate with management and other staff members to create a mini-archive of important figures from the city. Our main project involved cataloging items from Marie Rankin-Clarke, a socialite from the 1920s who was integral in creating the Hollywood Bowl. She donated her house to the city, which is currently being used as party venue, though some items were retrieved for digitization and cataloging for a future museum project. Film reels she had taken during her travels were digitized, while we cataloged and uploaded them to CatalogIt to make these items accessible.

The Carriage Barn Museum

The Carriage Barn Museum is a reconstruction of the original building that burnt down in the 1960s. At this time, the museum is closed indefinitely while plans are made for key improvements

Updates to the Carriage Barn Museum have been ongoing since January 2025. This project included:

  • a MAP assessment from the AAM

  • creating a mission statement

  • developing a strategic plan

  • cataloging and inventorying the entire collection, writing a collections policy (including repatriation policies)

  • writing a docent guide for historical tours

  • updated branding

This project was an area where I could really apply my theoretical knowledge from UW into a practical setting setting. I was this project allowed for collaboration, leadership, time management, grant writing opportunities, and design planning for exhibits.
